About Me

My name is Ted Schachter. I am a professor of Marketing & Advertising. I am also a twenty-year veteran of the adverting industry. Through the years I have seen a lot of mistakes made. A lot of companies fell because they did not understand their brands in relation to the consumers. In today’s  marketing and communication landscape it is even harder to break through the clutter.

A lot of blogs approach new technologies as the holy grail to advertising. Brand Managers embrace these new technologies much like a 5 year old holds on to his teddy bear. But these new “tools” are not the holy grail. They are tools which must be applied in conjunction to every other tool a marketer has. In the end, it is the consumer who decides. The only difference now is that the consumer can talk back and do it loudly.

My goal is to analyze, bring some clarity as well as take to the shed those companies who deserve to be spanked for their executions. Of course I will also praise those who deserve it.

Disclosure: None of the companies mentioned in the posts are companies I have a business relationship with and I have not been paid by any of them to discuss them. Any changes made to this disclosure will be mentioned in the individual posts.

Thank you for reading. Please feel free to comment.
